![]() ![]() There is a travel edition of the game, but we’ve never felt the need to get it. Our family has dragged this game all over the world… Germany, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Mexico… the bag of cubes is easy to stuff in a suitcase, and you can have a load of people play at once (plus more people leaning over shoulders kibbitzing). Qwirkle Travels Well My mother teamed up with my (then 5 year old) nephew against my sister and my daughters. We usually stuff some paper and a pen into the box/bag, so we are ready to play any time. and it’s not really a criticism, as much as a head’s up… i s a score sheet. No peaking! The drawstring snugs up so you can travel with it (and leave the box behind). On your turn you just reach into the bag and pull a piece. Also included is a white cotton bag with a drawstring for the pieces. Because they are thick, you can stand them on their edge in front of you without the need for a tray or shield. They don’t bend or chip like cardboard would, and they feel good in your hand. The pieces are thick squares of wood with symbols painted on them. One of the things that impresses me about Qwirkle is the game components. All of these are well deserved! Qwirkle Game Pieces Square Pieces feel good, and stand up on end. Qwirkle has won loads of awards… A Parent’s Choice Award, the Mensa Select Award, and (my personal favorite) the Major Fun Award. Continuing with Board Game videos, We walk you through all the rules of how to play Qwirkle This is a nice simple game for 2, 3 or 4 players that takes appr. Good for little kids who can match colors and shapes, and good for grown ups who can handle strategy. It’s easy to get started… but interesting enough to keep you engaged. Much like Dominos, the game goes deeper than it appears to. Qwirkle is straight forward… there are tiles with 6 colors and shapes… you put them in rows of either color or shape, and get points according to how many tiles you set down. It’s one of the games we haul out when new game players are visiting, and it’s a great game for my mom to play with the kids. It’s easy to learn, and all multiple people can play at the same time. Anyone who is a fan of such games like Scrabble, Uno, Dominos, or any other tile-placing games will certainly get a kick out of this simple but ridiculously fun title with a silly name.Ok…I have to start off by this Qwirkle game review by saying it is our hands-down favorite all ages family game. Qwirkle is am amazing casual experience, though it's so much fun it will be hard to put it down. Players won't need a Scrabble cheat to beat their friends, and nor will this game move so fast that they have to give it 100% of their attention. Still, it's nice to know the developers threw that in there instead of presenting a super-vanilla experience to users.Īn award winning game that was originally aimed at children, Qwirkle is a game anyone, ages from 3 to 300, can enjoy. This title also allows players to change the camera angle, zoom in and out, and really get different looks of the playing area, though it isn't terribly complex to the point where many users will use that feature. Ludo on iOS, Qwirkle doesn't contain any animations outside of the Qwirkle display when players score a line of 6 like tiles. Qwirkle also contains some little things that make it easy to learn while seeming more life like. Qwirkle also allows for full customization of one's game including rule changes and letting players change the colors that are playable. Like many games in this genre there is the option for local multiplayer as well as online play. Two or more players, whether they be human or the AI, face off in a field of onions to be the supreme shape/color matcher. The iOS version of Qwirkle is exactly like the real world thing. It's very easy to pick up, and while aimed at kids, it's really fun for all ages. A row of 6 is scored as a Qwirkle, and no more blocks can be placed in that row. The more of a like shape or color players have in a given row, the more points they score. The point of this game is to match like shapes and/or colors onto a playing surface. Qwirkle is an amalgamation of Scrabble, Uno, and Dominoes. Mindware, a company who produces educational toys and games aimed at children, is probably best known for their board game Qwirkle, which is now available on iOS. Board games are especially great for mobile devices because they are something that one can play at their own pace, doesn't require one's immediate attention, and is overall a casual and fun experience. That anything, of course, includes gaming. Board games are a pretty good usage of all of the strenghts of mobile devices a nice, portable, light weight device with a touch screen in which anyone can do almost anything.
