Apart from that, Monday and Tuesday will calm down, with a mixture of sunshine and showers amidst decreasing winds as another weak high pressure ridge moves across. Scotland could see rain linger into Monday before the low moves away. A weak high pressure ridge on Saturday will give some drier weather temporarily, mainly in the east, but a vigorous depression from the southwest is going to push heavy rain and a few thunderstorms northwards on Sunday, with strengthening winds. However, low pressure systems will dominate conditions through the final week of October. Daytime temperatures will reach the mid-to-high teens in the southern half of the UK, possibly reaching 20 Celsius at times, with the northern half seeing the low to mid-teens. With winds generally continuing to blow from a southeast to south-westerly direction, the weekend and the coming week will stay mild for the time of year. Later in November, low pressure systems look like becoming more impactful again, probably mostly affecting the northern UK. That could mean a drier and calmer period is in the offing for many areas, although there is uncertainty as to where exactly this high pressure will position itself. However, there are signs of a possible change by mid-November week as high pressure builds across the UK. ![]() Similar unsettled conditions should linger into the first week of November, as further vigorous Atlantic low pressure systems move across. This will be accompanied by strong and gusty winds. Particularly notable will be some heavy and thundery outbreaks of rain moving northwards on Sunday, then on Tuesday night and Wednesday, and again around Friday and Saturday. The final week of October will see further changeable, but mild or even warm weather. The former will be most prevalent as we journey through late October and into early November. Late autumn is often thought about in two ways: either as a stormy period marking the transition to the colder months, or as still, chilly and misty.
